Wow, what a fantastic ride this was. My girlfriend recommended this book to me and once again it turned out to be an outstanding pick. At first I assumed I would simply read it so that we could watch the series together, but after only a few pages I was completely hooked. I became genuinely invested in the band members and the people around them and I was eager to find out how their personal stories would unfold.

The writing in this book is absolutely stellar. It captures the spirit of the 70s so convincingly that you feel transported into the decade, surrounded by smoky backstage rooms, creative chaos and big dreams. The emotional pull is strong as well. You hope that the characters are fine, that they overcome their demons and that they eventually find whatever they are searching for in life. What impressed me the most was how flawed yet deeply human these characters are, and how much the novel trusts the reader to understand the tension and longing between them.

The decision to tell the entire story in an interview format was, at least for me, a brilliant choice. It took me a couple of pages to adjust, but once I found the rhythm it added so much energy and immediacy to the story. It felt as if I was listening to a documentary come to life, with different voices contradicting, confirming and correcting one another. It also created a wonderful sense of authenticity, as if the band had actually existed and had just been rediscovered for the historical record.

If you enjoy a compelling character driven story that captures both the glamour and the heartbreak of the 70s music scene, you should not skip this one. Heartfelt recommendation.
