This book was everything, all at once. It is already one of my favourites of the year and without a doubt in my top three books of all time. It is filled with emotion, and I deeply cared for Tilly and Alfie, but also for every other character who crossed their path.
„This time there is no blurb here, because everything would ruin the experience. So please avoid spoilers and let the book surprise you, as it surprised me!“
Not the blurb
The story is beautifully told and such a joy to read. I was completely immersed in the London setting. I would much rather live in Primrose Hill above the Book Lane bookshop than anywhere else. The atmosphere felt warm, intimate and real.
I think it is important to go into this book blind. Do not read the blurb on the back, as it contains small spoilers that are better discovered on your own. I was constantly surprised by twists and revelations, and it often felt less like reading a novel and more like following the lives of close friends. That is why I have not included a summary in this review.
Be prepared to cry. There will be sad tears, happy tears and every other kind of tear imaginable. For me, it started within the first few pages and only stopped at the very end. You will also find countless book recommendations woven into the story, so keep a marker and some tabs ready.
I loved the atmosphere, the vivid descriptions and the kindness between the characters. The way everything came together in the end was deeply satisfying.
An absolutely fantastic book and easily 6 out of 5 stars for me.
