This was my last story in the “Obsession Collection” and it really delivered. When I saw how the book was written (the whole story is told only through Social Media Posts, Comments, E Mails or Chat Histories), I thought at first: “I am too old for this sh*t! I cannot read this!” But as I read on it kept getting better and better. It was intriguing, clever and gut wrenching, and I cared for Tiana so much that I could not stop.
„Tiana Carter has just started college and is determined to make the most of it. She’s thrilled to be posting videos about dorm-room cooking and campus fashion for a small but loyal band of followers. When she dips into the online dating pool, her first swipe right raises a huge red flag. Tiana’s polite rejection is met with scorn, and now a group of self-proclaimed “high-value men” are hell-bent on ruining her life.“

The writing style was, as mentioned, quite special, but still surprisingly comfortable to read and also to listen to on audiobook. Once I got into the rhythm, the unusual format actually intensified the tension and made the whole thing feel disturbingly real.
The topic, though, is tough. These men are all “Alpha Bros” who believe they are the center of the universe and that only straight, white men should be in charge, when in reality no one cares about them because they are just a bunch of insecure, fuddy-duddy idiots who must have been dropped on their heads more than once. I am sorry for the harsh words, but I have zero tolerance for these kinds of men and I cannot stand these attitudes towards women. That is probably why I liked this story so much: it hit a nerve, it made me angry, and it made me root for Tiana even harder.
So all in all a great short story with a unique structure and a very important message. I was entertained, shocked and impressed. Four stars from me.
