This short story is part of the „Into Shadow“ collection. It revolves around death, grief, and the unsettling gift of “the sight,” which the main character, Maggie, inherits. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it. For me, the plot felt incoherent, and the ending left me completely unsatisfied.
„When her husband dies unexpectedly, Maggie Royal is struck with sinister visions that foretell danger for her and for her five-year-old daughter. Her mother and grandmother were said to have “the sight,” but it was never like this. With no one alive to turn to, Maggie must move quickly to uncover the meaning of her visions before her candle is snuffed out.“

The story actually begins quite well. The setup is intriguing, and the characters are drawn in a way that makes you care about them. But as the plot progresses, it unravels. The conclusion in particular is, in my opinion, implausible to the point of absurdity. A key arrangement between two characters is so unbelievable that it shattered the story for me completely.
A definitive “No” from me.
