I really liked this book. It was suspenseful and touching, characters were developed and at times it could get a little creepy or fantastical. But all in all it was a great collection of stories. In parts because of the short story about Holly Gibney.

The book contains four short stories or short novels. All four are very different and all are more on the thriller side or even fantasy, it is indeed hard to say. From my point of view, however, only very marginally in the realm of horror. Despite the brevity of the stories, the characters are well developed and move through the stories with the typical “King-charm”. Here is a brief summary of the individual novels (without spoilers, of course):

Mr. Harrigan’s Phone / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This first story (as is often the case in SK’s novels) is about an old man and a boy who can both learn something from each other. One learns about modernity and the other about days gone by. The story is rather nice and almost sweet, especially at the beginning. It didn’t blow me away, but it was still very good.

The Life of Chuck / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was very interested in this story right from the start. At the beginning you don’t really know what’s going on and where or even when you are. Over time and especially towards the end everything is explained and additional information is provided. The narrative style is backwards, but that is not a problem. This story is rather sad, yet beautiful and made me really think, in addition to the fact that it is very original and unusual.

If It Bleeds / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What can I say, a great sequel to “The Outsider” and Holly is convincing again. Suspense, humour, a little something for the heart and interesting characters. If you liked „The Outsider“ or the books with and about Holly in general, you won’t be disappointed.

Rat / ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The last story didn’t quite catch me. It was good, original and even surprising at one point, but by the end I was wondering what I’d read the story for… Basically I found the inner monologues in particular to be very well written and comprehensible.

It’s certainly not the best collection of short stories by SK, but it’s certainly one that fans shouldn’t miss. 100% recommendation! 😁👍🏻

Blutige Nachrichten von Stephen King

Ich habe dieses Buch wirklich gemocht. Es war spannend und manchmal berührend, Charaktere entwickelten sich weiter und teilweise konnte es auch etwas gruselig oder fantastisch werden. Alles in allem war es aber eine tolle Geschichten-Sammlung. Nicht zu Letzt natürlich auch wegen der Kurzgeschichte um Holly.

Das Buch enthält vier Kurzgeschichten oder Kurzromane. Alle vier sind sehr unterschiedlich und alle eher auf der Seite des Thrillers oder sogar eher eines Fantasy-Romans, sehr schwer zu sagen. Aus meiner Sicht aber nur sehr am Rande im Bereich von Horror. Trotz der Kürze der Stories werden die Charaktere toll entwickelt und bewegen sich mit dem typischen „King-Charme“ durch die Geschichten. Hier also kurz zusammengefasst die einzelnen Romane (ohne Spoiler natürlich):

Mr. Harrigans Telefon / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bei dieser ersten Geschichte geht es (wie oft in SKs Romanen) um einen alten Mann und einen Jungen, die beide etwas voneinander lernen können. Der eine lernt etwas über die Moderne und der andere über die vergangen Tage. Die Geschichte ist vor allem zu Beginn eher schön und beinahe süss. Hat mich nicht komplett vom Hocker gehauen, aber war trotzdem sehr gut.

Chucks Leben / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Diese Story hat mich von Anfang an sehr interessiert. Zu Beginn weiss man nicht so recht was abgeht und wo und vor allem wann man ist. Mit der Zeit oder vor allem dann zum Ende wird alles aufgeklärt und mit Zusatzinfos versehen. Der Erzählstil ist in verkehrter Reihenfolge, aber das ist nicht weiter problematisch. Diese Geschichte ist eher traurig und doch schön und hat mich zum Denken angeregt, nebst der Tatsache, dass sie doch sehr originell und aussergewöhnlich ist.

Blutige Nachrichten / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was soll ich sagen, eine super Fortsetzung von „Der Outsider“ und Holly überzeugt auch hier wieder. Spannung, Witz, ein bisschen was fürs Herz und interessante Charaktere. Wer den Outsider oder allgemein die Bücher mit und um Holly mochte, wird hier nicht enttäuscht.

Ratte / ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Die letzte Geschichte konnte mich nicht ganz so gut abholen. Sie war gut, originell und an einer Stelle sogar überraschend aber am Ende habe ich mich etwas gefragt, wofür ich die Geschichte gelesen habe… Grundsätzlich empfand ich aber vor allem die inneren Monologe als sehr gut geschrieben und nachvollziehbar.

Es ist bestimmt nicht die beste Sammlung an Kurzromanen von SK aber eine die ein Fan sicherlich nicht verpassen sollte. 100% Empfehlung! 😁👍🏻
