This was the next book on my journey to the Dark Tower, before continuing with „Black House” and then moving on to „The Dark Tower VI – Song of Susannah”.

To be honest, the beginning felt quite chaotic and confusing. The plot dragged noticeably at first, and I started to think this might turn out to be a bit of a slog. But once Jack sets out on his journey, or definitely from around the 40% mark, the story really kicks into gear. From that point on, it’s hard to put the book down.

The writing style is strong, smooth, and very pleasant to read, classic King. The story offers everything a good fantasy adventure needs: suspense, fantastic creatures, a nasty villain, plenty of action, friendship, and even a bit of family drama. You really get a full package here and then some.

I found it a bit unrealistic at first that Jack is only twelve years old, especially considering all the things he goes through. But as the story progressed, it didn’t bother me anymore. At some point, you just forget his age because the character works so well. And let’s be honest, who cares about realism in a fantasy novel?

Despite the minor bumps in the beginning, this one gets a full 5 stars from me. A wild, thrilling ride filled with heart, magic, and terror. And now it’s straight on to „Black House”, I’m excited!

Dies war mein nächstes Buch auf meiner Reise zum Dunklen Turm, bevor es dann mit dem „Schwarzen Haus“ weitergeht und danach mit „Der Dunkle Turm 6 – Susannah“.

„Der zwölfjährige Jack Sawyer steht kurz vor dem Beginn einer fantastischen Reise, einer aufregenden und furchterregenden Suche nach dem mystischen Talisman, dem einzigen Gegenstand, der Jacks sterbende Mutter retten kann. Um sein Ziel zu erreichen, muss Jack jedoch nicht nur die Vereinigten Staaten durchqueren, sondern auch die wundersame und bedrohliche Parallelwelt der Territorien. Der Anfang war für mich ehrlich gesagt ziemlich chaotisch und verwirrend. Die Handlung hat sich zu Beginn spürbar gezogen und ich dachte schon, das wird wohl eher ein zäher Ritt. Aber sobald sich Jack auf seine Reise begibt, oder ganz sicher ab etwa 40 Prozent, nimmt das Buch richtig Fahrt auf. Ab da ist es kaum noch aus der Hand zu legen.

Der Schreibstil ist gewohnt stark, flüssig und sehr angenehm zu lesen, ein echter King eben. Die Geschichte bietet alles, was ein gutes Fantasy-Abenteuer braucht: Spannung, fantastische Wesen, einen fiesen Bösewicht, viel Action, Freundschaft und sogar etwas Familiendrama. Man bekommt hier wirklich ein volles Paket geliefert und dann noch eine Prise mehr.

Dass Jack erst zwölf Jahre alt ist, fand ich anfangs etwas unrealistisch, vor allem angesichts all der Dinge, die er durchmacht. Aber das hat mich im Laufe der Geschichte gar nicht mehr gestört. Irgendwann vergisst man sein Alter komplett, weil er einfach als Figur funktioniert. Und mal ehrlich: Wen kümmert schon Realismus in einem Fantasy-Roman?

Trotz kleiner Schwächen im Einstieg gibt’s von mir volle 5 Sterne. Ein wilder, spannender Ritt mit Herz, Magie und Schrecken. Und jetzt geht es direkt weiter mit „Das Schwarze Haus“, ich bin gespannt!
