I actually got that book as a recommendation by Nick from „Books are sick“ on Youtube. And he was so in love with that novel, that I ordered it and started reading the day it arrived. 😍 And I loved it as well. So simple yet so wonderful. 😁
„It is 1985, in an Irish town. During the weeks leading up to Christmas, Bill Furlong, a coal and timber merchant, faces into his busiest season. As he does the rounds, he feels the past rising up to meet him – and encounters the complicit silences of a people controlled by the Church.“
Blurb
As recommend by Nick, I didn’t know anything about the book. I ordered it without reading any of the blurb or reading reviews about the book. Going in blind, worked really great for me. 😁👍🏻 The author manages to describe all „the small things“ in a fantastic language and the story sucked me in, even though it wasn’t that much tension, but I was hooked. I don’t know exactly what it is, that made me identify myself with Furlong so much, but it was really a great experience. 🙂 You get to hear Furlongs thoughts and they are so relatable… After the story I read the „A Note on the Text“ and found out that the story is very loosely inspired by true events. 🤯 Didn’t expect that! And it puts Furlong and how he reacts to these events in an even better light. 🥰 I can really recommend this book to all readers… it is short and brilliantly written, what‘s not to like about that!? 😉
